Tesla Powerwall 3 – What should we expect from Tesla’s home battery storage?
Why are UK customers (and installers), lining up to buy the Tesla Powerwall 3, which became available on the British market from 19th June of this year. This is an easy one……it does almost everything! With solar inverter integration, varied charge options, smaller and flood proof casing and whole home back up – it is ticking a lot of boxes.

Powering PV with Powerwall 3
The Tesla Powerwall 3 can supply more power with a single unit and is designed to future-proof your needs. Powerwall 3 features an integrated solar inverter allowing solar to be connected directly. This is both convenient and efficient. It can be added to your existing solar PV system or installed on its own, (much like the Powerwall 2). But unlike the Powerwall 2, it can manage both PV and Battery (the AC and the DC) thereby removing the requirement for a separate PV inverter. Good news for everyone.
District Network Operator (DNO) applications should be more straightforward and may return faster response (potentially less waiting around). This is because there is only a requirement for one power generator as the Powerwall 3 will manage both the PV and the battery in your home.
The Powerwall 3 can be set to various charges from 3.68k to11.04kW charge with a broad range between these values. This variable option gives homeowners more control over their energy generation and storage.
Tesla Powerwall 3 – Future proofing your energy needs
Much like the Powerwall 2, the Powerwall 3 has extension capability to add on additional power in future years as your needs change, however the Powerwall 3 makes this a much simpler thing to do. Tesla have allowed for the Powerwall to grow as your property and energy use evolves. Up to 3 DC expansion packs can be added to each Powerwall anytime allowing up to 54kWh of battery storage. The Powerwall 3 is not however compatible to stack with the Powerwall 2 system.
With 3 Maximum Power Point Trackers, the Powerwall 3 is able to energise 3 separate areas (multiple roofs) without the need for an additional inverter. An average domestic inverter powers 2 strings. This negates the need for an additional inverter. Ideal for larger properties, installing partly on garages or outbuildings.
Powerwall stores your solar energy for backup protection, so when the grid goes down your power stays on, giving homeowners more control about their grid reliance.
Powerwall 3 can provide access to clean energy day and night. If this solar battery solution is installed with solar panels you can use the electricity generated when you need it, or you may have the option to buy energy from the grid at it’s cheapest time (often at night).
