What is solar PV?

Solar PV is short for Solar Photovoltaic. The name came from the conjunction of two words -photo meaning light and voltaic meaning electricity. Essentially it means electricity from light.

A solar PV panel also known as a module will generate electricity when sunlight falls on it. The electricity generated flows around a circuit; it then arrives at a device which converts it into usable 230V ac household electricity. You can then use this electricity to power your lights, power sockets, and boiler – essentially everything in your house which uses electricity.

Why choose Solar PV?

A Solar PV system will reduce your energy bills by providing your home with electricity that has been converted directly from sunlight. Once installed, the system will generate electricity during the day time ready for you to use when you need it. You don’t need direct sunlight as the solar power system will generate electricity on duller days too.

As well as saving on your electricity bills, you will also generate an income from the Feed in Tariff (FiT) scheme. The FiT scheme is a government programme designed to promote the uptake of renewable and low-carbon electricity generation technologies.

You’ll also dramatically reduce your carbon footprint by generating your own electricity.

The solar power system gives off zero emissions as opposed to buying your electricity that has been created by burning polluting fossil fuels.
